Greetings from the KCCBS and OCH Alumni Association!
I recently looked over the original Constitution of the KCCBS Alumni Association. It was interesting to note the stated purpose: We, the Alumni of the Kansas City College and Bible School, in order to promote the spirituality, fellowship, and association of the Alumni of this institution, demonstrate loyalty to our Alma Mater, and share in its problems and progress…
I don’t know what year the Constitution and By-laws were instituted, but as I reflect on the past few years, I realize that we are still endeavoring to fulfill that purpose in 2009 and beyond. Events such as the Gospel Sing certainly “promote the spirituality, fellowship and association of the Alumni.” The occasional Alumni Drama goes a long way in promoting fellowship and association as well. I find it interesting to note that being a member of the Alumni Association carries a certain amount of responsibility. I have never really looked at my membership in this way. However, as members of the Alumni Association, we have a responsibility to (1) demonstrate loyalty, (2) share in the problems, and (3) share in the progress of our Alma Mater.
It is incredible to me to see the amount of loyalty that many of you have towards your Alma Mater – KCCBS. If you have been somewhat of a “distant” member over the years, let me encourage you to renew your loyalty to your Alma Mater. We need each of you to support KCCBS. We need your prayers, your time, your talents, and your financial gifts. If we all work together, we can see that God’s work continues to move forward at KCCBS and makes an impact on future students as it has in so many of our lives.
We also have a responsibility to share in the problems of our Alma Mater. It almost goes without saying that no educational institution is perfect and without its problems. It is hard to find an individual or an organization that hasn’t been affected in some way by our economic downturn. In these ways, KCCBS is no different. In spite of the problems that our Alma Mater regularly faces, God has been faithful and has provided! God worked a miracle at KCCBS during the first quarter of this year by providing a 79% increase in donations compared to the same time period last year. Many of you have carried the responsibility by sharing in the problems of your Alma Mater. Thank you!
We also have a responsibility to share in the progress of our Alma Mater. Quality analysis and initiatives have led KCCBS to a recent accreditation “applicant status” with the ABHE. The school continues to take steps forward in this lengthy process. Additionally, Overland Christian Schools is preparing to go through a separate accreditation process. The campus grounds continue to improve with a recent facelift being given to the dorm and the student lounge (Falcons Fortress). As funding permits, other campus improvements are being made. Much more could be mentioned here, but we have a responsibility to share in the progress of our Alma mater. Some of you have done so through your giving of time, talents, and finances. Thank you for your continued support of your alma mater!
